Highlights of the Family Protection Whole Life Insurance Plan for CSEA Members:
- Payroll Deductions: Members may elect to have their premiums deducted through payroll - no invoices, no checks, no hassles!
- Premium Waiver: If an insured member becomes totally disabled for 6 consecutive months prior to age 60, the premiums will be waived while the member remain totally disabled.
- Unisex rates: Equal rates regardless of gender.
- Portable: If you are no longer a CSEA member, you can continue this coverage as long as you continue to pay your premiums.
- Accelerated Death Benefits: If an insured member is diagnosed with a terminal illness that results in a life expectancy of 12 months or less, a one-time lump sum benefit of up to 50% of the member's death benefits may be paid.
- Non-Smoker Discount: Lower rates for non-smokers.
- Cash Values: After the first few years, this plan will begin to accumulate cash values.
- Loan Option: This feature allows an insured member to take out cash loans from the cash values from their plan.
- Optional Accidental Death Benefit: This option can provide an insured member with an additional lump sum benefit equal to the whole life insurance amount.

- Who is eligible to apply for this whole life plan?
All CSEA members under age 60 are eligible to apply for this coverage. Members may also request coverage for their spouses under age 60 and unmarried dependent children age 15 days thru 24 years. Spouses and dependent children cannot apply if the member is not applying / not insured for coverage.
- How much insurance is available?
Coverage amounts are based upon your age and smoking status. Contact your authorized Pearl Carroll Representative for a Personal Plan Illustration with exact coverage amounts available for you and your spouse. Spouse coverage cannot exceed members' coverage. $4,000 is available for each dependent child.
- As an insured member, will I continue paying premiums if I become disabled?
If an insured member becomes totally disabled for 6 consecutive months prior to age 60, the premiums will be waived while the member remains totally disabled.
- Does this plan have an accidental death benefit feature?
Yes, it is an optional benefit and you must apply for it. There is an additional premium charge for this option.
- As an insured member, if I become terminally ill can I collect benefits before I die?
If an insured member is diagnosed with a terminal illness that results in a life expectancy of 12 months or less, a onetime lump sum benefit of 50% of the life insurance amount may be paid.
- If I apply, do I have to go through underwriting before I am approved?
Yes. The underwriting decision for most applicants will be based upon the answers to the health questions on the application form.
- Does this plan build cash values?
Yes. After the first few years, this plan has increasing cash values.
- What happens to my cash values if my coverage is terminated?
If coverage is terminated, it may be surrendered for its cash value or may be exchanged for an amount of paid-up insurance.
- As an insured will my premiums ever increase?
No. Your premiums will remain the same for as long as you are insured.
- Can I continue this coverage if I am no longer a member of CSEA?
Yes. You can continue this coverage if you are no longer a member of CSEA providing you pay your premiums on a direct bill basis.
